 | | Week of October 19, 2026 | | Buyers have more room to negotiate | Hi there, | | The Big Story | The housing market is giving buyers a little more breathing room this fall. Here is what is happening with inventory. The National Association of REALTORS reported that there are now 1.60 million homes for sale nationally, up 4.6% from last year, and the typical home took 33 days to sell in September, up from 31 in August. NAR's chief economist, Lawrence Yun, put it this way: higher inventory and lengthening days on market give buyers improved negotiating power. Prices are still holding, though. | | | Close to Home | Ohio's median sale price was $279,900 in August, up 4.4% from a year ago, even though the number of closed sales dipped 4.2%. Values are holding across the state. In Portage County, 180 homes sold in August, up 12.7% from last year. The typical home was on the market 22 days and sold for 99.6% of its list price. Well-priced homes are still moving. Akron voters will also decide two rental housing measures on the November 3 ballot.
